At the beginning of the session I asked Dominique to emotionally emulate what it was like to be a bird in a oil leak disaster zone attempting to help it’s baby. We then proceeded to imagine a human clean up crew turning up, which served as the premise for this piece.

The Japanese term Kintsukuroi means to repair pottery that has been broken with gold lacquer, as they feel an item is more beautiful if it has once been shattered. I thought it was a beautiful concept that applies to humans as well. This two set represents a cathartic release on a personal level for Dominique Zuniga and a potential future beyond fossil fuels as an energy foundation for us all.

"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping. To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers — so many caring people in this world." — Fred Rogers
